THE STORY STARTS WITH A PAIR OF LEATHER BOOTS At an estate sale in England during 1973 Mr. Marley Hodgson stumbled upon the long forgotten leather boots and belts of a Ghurka Commanding Officer. Although these pieces had been subjected to decades of punishing treatment, they were in surprisingly good condition. Inspired by the lasting quality and patina of this leather, Mr. Hodgson returned to America and developed Ghurka leather - exceedingly supple leather that looks and feels like no other. In 1975, he introduced the world to the Original Collection - six completely handcrafted Ghurka leather and twill bags that remain cornerstones of the collection today. Over the years Ghurka's signature chestnut leather has been modernized, refreshed and refined. Flawless skins now come to Ghurka from Europe's best tanneries. Old school artisans enhance every piece they make with subtle handcrafted touches and discreetly beautiful hardware. And at Ghurka's workshops in Europe and America, every handbag, briefcase, satchel and piece of luggage is buffed and polished by hand - the final touch before it's sent off into the world to begin a brilliant new adventure. |
