ABOUT GHURKA

Founded in Connecticut in 1975 by designer and adventurer Marley Hodgson, Ghurka has served as a symbol of superior American leather craftsmanship for over thirty years.

Ghurka’s history can be traced back to an antiquities auction in the early 1970s where Marley, fueled by his love of history and leather craft, bid to win on campaign gear once owned by a regimental officer of the British Ghurkas stationed in India during the early 1900s. He was so impressed by the workmanship and quality of the nearly century-old leather that he was inspired to create a line of work and travel gear to complement his belt and brace brand, Trafalgar.

Today, Ghurka continues to cater to what Marley called the “quiet confidence and adventurous spirit” of our clients with an expanded product offering and the opening of our New York flagship store at 781 Fifth Avenue.  Central to our collection are Ghurka’s coveted, iconic pieces in classic and new fabrications, as well as our new Limited Edition range designed for the modern Ghurka collector.

Committed to solving the portage problems of our customer with style and grace, Ghurka strives to embody the best in American design and manufacturing.  Our classic styles have remained mostly unchanged since Marley’s original designs, and we believe they look as modern and relevant today as they did thirty years ago.  With new design innovations firmly rooted in Ghurka's heritage and principals, we enthusiastically welcome the next generation of Ghurka aficionados.
